Before Starting

Before we begin studying Korean, It's necessary that you know how to read Korean letters, also knows as "Hangeul" because I write primarily in them.


Hangeul consists of 10 vowels, 11 compound vowels, 14 consonants, and 5 compound consonants

Vowels:

- a (ah)

- o (oh)

- u (oo)

- eo (similiar to "oh" but more of a "ah-oh" sound)

- i (ee)

- eu (similiar to "oo" but more of a "eh-oo" sound)

- ya

- yo

- yu

- yeo


Compound vowels:

- ae (sounds like "a" as in "ate")

- yae

- e (eh)

- ye

- wa

-wae

- oi (sounds like oh-ee)

- weo (sounds like woh)

- we

- wi (sounds like oo-ee)

- eui (sounds like eu-ee or Just "ee")


Consonants:

- g or k

- n

- d or t

- r or l

- m

- b or p

- s

- (silent when used in front of vowels) or ng

- j or ch

- Ch'

- k'

- t'

- p'

- h


Compound consonants:

- gg or kk

- dd or tt

- bb or pp

- ss

- jj
